Still Natural

Just a little update peeps!  Hi guys, I know it’s been a while, but I haven’t been doing or trying anything new with my hair.  The last thing I have done was when I did the “major” trim on it.  I am still rocking the curly twist out.  I will say this, my staple product (meaning, I always come back to it)  Taliah Waajid Curling Cream .  It’s for my hair.  That’s all I can say.

I Just Want To Feel My Scalp Again!!!!

Posted on

11 weeks people….I’ve had this big, thick, and curly hairfro!!!!! I just want to feel my scalp for a moment, even a second maybe?  The current temp dares me!  Why go through the grueling process of washing, deep conditioning, blow drying, and straightening my hair for hours just so it can sweat out???  But, my scalp? This isn’t about a length check, or seeing if I can get a relaxer look without the chemicals… I just want to feel my scalp and run my hands through my hair with ease…..(speaking gently and slowly)  For 11 weeks its’ been afro-bun, afro-bun, afro-bun, afro….well you get the idea.  Today is my wash and deep condition day.  It’s my chance to straighten my hair……to embrace the versatility natural hair provides! I’m not disappointed in myself about breaking the challenge, any delay in heat is an achievement!  (confidence is building….) I know in the end, only one thing will deter my decision to decide to flat iron and keep me on this no direct heat challenge……….LAZINESS.

Second Chances

So I gave it another try, and the results…..too dry folks.😞 I am so disappointed. It has volume and is soft but too dry. What did I do different this time? I applied a moisturizer this time by Shea Moisture, then applied the curl boosting jelly. I twisted my hair as normal, and when I took it down…..

Whew! I’m Dying Over Here!

Posted on

Well, I decided to skip the month of January from doing my once-a-month flat ironing. I am shedding like mad! I washed my hair, and when I tell you so many long strands came out! My hair is just a hot mess! I need to invest in a serious leave in moisturizing cream for curly (natural) hair. The shedding doesn’t really bother me, I mean come on, I am almost 2 years without a chemical relaxer! (19 months exactly) So, the shedding, not a shocker, but the tangles!! Why all of a sudden? I’ve decided my hair needs a break from the pincurls. In order for me to get my pincurls I have to twist the hair around and up my finger, maybe that is just too much right now? I am also only going to wash once a week for awhile to see if that cuts down on the need to detangle. Who cares about the workouts?! I figure washing once a week means less manipulation. As for the sweaty hair and scalp after workouts…..we will just have to wait and see! I’ve got to step my game up! I can’t keep handling my hair like I’m relaxed, I need to go ahead and think like I’m “fully natural”. Maybe I need to just go ahead and go for the “wash and go”? I need to give my hair a rest is all I know. I didn’t want to do it, but I feel forced to surrender to…………”the bun”. I said I would not fall victim to the quick fix of throwing my hair into a bun, but man, it just seems like a big nest in there! lol I know what I need to do….hot oil treatment. I need to buckle down and treat my scalp and hair to a hot oil treatment! Lord willing, that is priority on my to-do-list. So, I need to research a good leave in moisturizer and purchase a hotoil treatment. Maybe I’m not dying after all, just a lil heartburn to get the creative juices flowing eh?

Brooklyn, Here We Come!

Ok, well…not exactly. Tonite, I decided to take the kids to Brooklyn Pizzeria since the hubby is working late. This is my first time eating there. I am going at the recommendation of my younger son, who has gone previously with my older brother and his family. I decided to keep it casual: The sweater is my latest thrift haul, the black undershirt is from Burlington, and the jeans are a thrift find as well.

If Straightening Natural Hair is Wrong, Then I Don’t Want To Be Right!

I was told that if I straighten my hair, then I wasn’t a “true” natural. Hmmmmm…. (silence)………..(and more silence)………..WHO CARES PEOPLE!!  This sista’s hair is absolutely breathtaking!

Co-Washday Success

So, I did a hot oil treatment today with coconut oil and my regular conditioner wash.  I decided to sit under the hairdryer and do a rollerset.  I sat under the dryer longer than usual, and when I was done, I did the dry wrap and sat back under the dryer for about 5 minutes.  I trimmed about an inch more relaxed ends off.  I think it came out great.  No direct heat at all. No flat iron, no blowdryer.  Hair is gradually becoming one length.  I used to have my hair in layers, and it is taking a while for it to grow out.  So, I won’t straighten my hair until November.  I feel good going into this with healthy ends!  I will do my pincurls after applying my leave in moisturizer, Hawaiin Silky 14-n-1, and then the Eco-styler argan oil gel. Will post results tomorrow Lord willing.  Bye Guys!

Hey Guys!

Hi bloggers!  Just checking in with you all.  I am currently 16 months post relaxer, and I will not be doing an all over flat iron until the 1st week of November.  Today, if I am able (my daughter is home ill today), I will be co-washing my hair and doing another trim.  I am saying “another” trim because I cut some relaxed ends off 2 weeks ago, and will be doing it again today.  I know I had a goal of mid-back length by the end of November, but my goal is healthy, thick hair overall.  So….I will be rocking my pincurls or buns for now.  Hopefully, by November, the weather will really be cool enough for me to sport a beautiful flat ironed look! I’ve also been on a weight loss journey with the hubby.  We have just been changing our eating habits.  Believe it or not, I have been eating “more”, just smaller “healthy” meals a day whether I am hungry or not…. you heard correctly, even if I am not hungry.  I use to make the mistake of not eating until dinner, and all I was doing was starving the body so when dinner time came, it automatically stored anything I ate as fat!  Well, now, I am training my body to burn what I eat as “fuel or energy”.  Praise God, I am 12lbs lighter.  So, you have to give it something to burn!  My workout regimen is 45 min. to an hour of jogging and walking on the treadmill 5 days a week. On the weekends people, I eat whatever I want.   Hopefully, this also will aide in the health of my hair as well.  So, that is all for now you guys.  Praying your hair journey is going well, til next time! Oh yeh,…………don’t forget to drink that water!
